Summary

A number of institutes at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering have taken part in two additional collaborative research centers since January 1, 2000. These are:

  • High performance sliding and friction systems based on advanced ceramics
  • Design, production and quality assurance of moulded micro-components made of metallic and ceramic materials

The above research centres are precisely trend-setting scientific areas. Ceramic materials research, or materials research in general, has gained an outstanding position at the Karlsruhe Institue of Technology in the last twenty to thirty years. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has especially taken up this initiative.
