Über uns
Die Fakultät für Maschinenbau gehört neben der Fakultät für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik, vier Helmholtz-Programmen und acht Instituten des Großforschungsbereichs zum Bereich 3 "Maschinenbau und Elektrotechnik" des KIT. Die Fakultät besteht aus über 20 Instituten mit ca. 1.000 Mitarbeitenden, darunter rund 45 Professorinnen und Professoren, 460 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeitende und 200 Mitarbeitende in Verwaltung und Technik. Hinzu kommen einige hundert Tutoren und wissenschaftliche Hilfskräfte.

Global population growth and changing consumption and production patterns are driving up demand for resources. Against this backdrop, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is investigating product and material cycles and environmental interactions in its new flagship project. The aim is to develop integrative, resource-efficient recycling systems that take into account interdisciplinary approaches as well as sustainable technologies and nature-based solutions.
Bei dem Motorsportevent „Formula Future“ treten studentische Teams mit selbst entwickelten Fahrzeugen an und testen Konzepte unter gleichen Bedingungen. Erlaubt sind Brennstoffzellen, Wasserstoffmotoren, Verbrenner und Hybridantriebe. Malki Maliha, Postdoktorand am KIT und Event-Manager, erklärt: „Der Verbrennungsmotor ist für den Nachwuchs noch lange kein altes Eisen.“ Anders als die rein elektrische Formula Student Germany setzt Formula Future auf Technologieoffenheit.

Ab sofort können Tankwagen in Mannheim erstmals Kraftstoffmischungen laden, die nicht nur Bioethanol enthalten, wie bei den bekannten Kraftstoffqualitäten E10 oder E5 üblich, sondern auch andere erneuerbare Komponenten wie strombasierte oder biogene Kraftstoffe – sogenannte reFuels. Eine neue Pilotanlage im Tanklager der Exolum Mannheim GmbH mischt diese Anteile flexibel und dokumentiert die Treibhausgas-Einsparungen digital für jede Lieferung. Das Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) begleitet den Aufbau der Anlage wissenschaftlich.
The honorary award recognizes individuals who have made a special contribution to engineering, scientific and technological progress, and community work within the VDI. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. Albert Albers, head of IPEK (KIT), was honored for his services in research, teaching, and voluntary work. With excellence, practical relevance, and commitment, he has shaped product development worldwide and contributed his expertise to many VDI committees. KIT contributes key competencies to fusion alliance
Baden-Württemberg will participate in the cross-state alliance for fusion research, in which several federal states are pooling their activities for the development of fusion reactors. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will make a significant scientific contribution to this alliance. The main focus will be on identifying and removing technological obstacles to the practical use of fusion energy. KIT News BW press release
