Recognition from previous studies at KIT

You can apply to the Mach/ MEI Examination Board for recognition of your achievements from a previous degree program, study program.

The application can only be submitted after enrolment in the Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or in the Mechanical Engineering International (MEI) degree program.

Recognition is only granted upon application and never automatically.

You can find the application for recognition here. Please select according to your current degree program, study program:

Procedure of the recognition process:

  1. Students complete the upper part of the application for recognition. Then submit the application with all the necessary documents to the module coordinator (MV).
  2. The module coordinator completes the form. Once the module coordinator has signed the form, he/she sends all submitted documents by internal mail or email to the Examination Board (PA) Mach/ MEI (pa does-not-exist.mach kit edu).
  3. After review by the PA, the form is forwarded to the Examination Office of the Department (campus) or the Students Office of KIT and the student is informed by e-mail. The recognition is then entered in the student file by the Examinations Office or the Students Office.
  4. If the coursework and examinations cannot be recognized, the student will be informed of this by the MA or the PA. Excessive differences in the depth of the material covered, in the content or in the requirements may be reasons for rejection. This information is mandatory, as under the Lisbon Convention the burden of proof no longer lies with the student, but with the university, which now has to prove that the work already completed cannot be recognized due to a significant difference. The fundamental principle of the Convention is that recognition can only be refused if significant differences are identified. The basis for assessment is the knowledge and skills acquired.
  5. In order to be able to make an appropriate assessment of the qualification already acquired, sufficient information about the acquired qualification must be available. The applicant is responsible for providing this information. The institution issuing the qualification has a corresponding duty to provide information to the applicant or the institution to which recognition is applied for upon request and within a reasonable period of time.
