Article 3 KIT Department Council
- The KIT Department Council shall be concerned with any and all matters of the KIT Department, which are of major importance. In particular, the KIT Department Council shall have the following tasks:
- On proposal of the President, election of the KIT Dean and election of one or several Studies Dean/Deans, who is/are to act as deputy/deputies of the KIT Dean, from the group of full-time professors/executive scientists in the sense of Article 14, par. 3, No. 1, KITG.
- Discussion of the contribution of the KIT Department to the Structure and Development Plan of KIT.
- Approval of the studies, examination, and doctoral regulations as well as of studies plans.
- Execution of procedures for obtaining the doctoral or post-doctoral lecture qualification.
- Agreement on the description of posts for university teachers and executive scientists in the sense of Article 14, par. 3, No. 1, KITG, within the framework of participation according to Article 8, par. 11, No. 3 of the Joint Statutes.
- Proposals for the appointment of “Honorarprofessoren” and “außerplanmäßige Professoren”.
- Proposal of members of appointment commissions and in particular of at least two student members.
- Decision on appointment proposals for the KIT Department’s posts of university teachers and executive scientists in the sense of Article 14, par. 3, No. 1, KITG.
- Teaching evaluation matters according to Article 5, par. 2, LHG.

Article 2 (5) The KIT Department establishes an Executive Committee of the KIT Department. It shall support the KIT Dean in executing his/her tasks.
Article 2 (2) The KIT Dean shall have the following tasks:
- Chairing the KIT Department Council.
- Preparing the meetings of the KIT Department Council and enforcement of its decisions. In case the KIT Dean considers a decision of the KIT Department to be illegal, he/she shall object to this decision and insist on remedy. This objection shall have a postponing effect. If no agreement is reached, the President shall be informed. The President shall repeal the objection or decision, if he/she deems the latter to be illegal.
- Representing the KIT Department.
- Implementing the KIT Structure and Development Plan in the area of academic education and academic affairs by means of e.g. target agreements in accordance with the agreements reached in appointment, continued employment, and five-year negotiations as well as preparing and, if applicable, participating in the said negotiations.
- Decision on the budget allocated to the KIT Department in agreement with the Executive Committee and in consultation with the KIT Department Council and assuming responsibility for the economically efficient use of the budget allocated to the KIT Department’s education activities.
- Informing the KIT Department Council about all important matters of the KIT Department.
- Irrespective of the responsibility of the President, supervising the members of the KIT Department as to whether they fulfill their academic education tasks. In this respect, he/she shall have supervisory and directive power.
