Special Features of the Degree Progam
The Pre-Semester:
A unique feature of the study program is the early start through the Pre-Semester, which usually takes place from August to September. During this time, subjects of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English are taught at the level of the German Abitur. At the end of the course, an external assessment exam is held to determine the suitability of international applicants for studying Mechanical Engineering at KIT.
Applicants who are not directly admitted to KIT must pass the assessment test. It is strongly recommended that these applicants attend the Pre-Semester to improve their chances of passing the test. Applicants with direct admission may also attend the Pre-Semester courses to refresh their knowledge in the above-mentioned subjects. Information on the admission status (direct or indirect admission) will be provided in the KIT Admission Letter after the application process has been completed.
To register for the Pre-Semester, please contact the Carl Benz School of Engineering (CBS), which is responsible for the organizational processing. Participation in the Pre-Semester is independent of membership in the College Program.

This makes them a valuable point of contact for other students. Since the student council consists entirely of volunteers, they are always happy to welcome new students who are interested in getting involved and working together.
Interesting annual KIT events:
- Day of Mechanical Engineering: At the Day of Mechanical Engineering, students can learn about opportunities for collaboration with institutes and industry companies, including internships, bachelor’s or master’s theses, doctoral projects, or to start a career. The event is complemented by a lecture series on the career profile of a mechanical engineer.
