Special Features of the Degree Progam
The Pre-Semester:
A distinctive feature of the study program is the Pre-Semester, a study preparatory course, which is usually held from August to September. It covers mathematics, physics, chemistry and English to the level of the German Abitur. At the end of the course, participants take an external assessment exam to evaluate their eligibility to study Mechanical Engineering at KIT.
Applicants who are not granted direct admission to KIT must pass this assessment test. Participation in the Pre-Semester is strongly recommended for this group to improve their chances of success. Applicants with direct admission may also attend the Pre-Semester to refresh and strengthen their knowledge in the subjects mentioned above. Information about the admission status (direct or indirect admission) is provided in the official KIT Admission Letter following the application process.
To register for the Pre-Semester, please contact the Carl Benz School of Engineering (CBS), which is responsible for the organizational process. Participation in the Pre-Semester is independent of membership in the College Program.
