Information on the Professional Internship within the Master's Degree Program of Materials Science and Technology

 

An internship in accordance with the current Study and Exam Regulations has to be completed within the Master's degree program of MWT. The current curriculum provides information on the content, execution, and recognition of the professional internship.

Duration

The minimum duration of the internship is 9 weeks. Days of absence must be made up. Days of absence include holidays and absence due to the inability to work.


Contents

In order to ensure a sufficient scope of professionally practical training, activities out of a minimum of two different fields of work must be carried out and proven. The activities can be chosen out of the following fields:

  • Material development
  • Material testing / quality control
  • Material synthesis
  • Material selection in product development process
  • Metallurgy / powder metallurgy
  • Forming technology
  • Shaping technology
  • Surface technology
  • Heat treatment – other material technological fields (after consultation with the internship office of the faculty of mechanical engineering).

 

Recognition

The recognition of the professional internship is carried out by the internship office of the faculty of mechanical engineering. For recognition, a presentation of the training contract and an activity report is required (each in original copies). The activity report is a certificate of apprenticeship (“internship certification”) which contains the nature of the activities and the duration of the professional internship. Any days of absence are to be recorded.

Furthermore, students have to write a report and give a short presentation.
