1. GEARE: Global Engineering Alliance for Research and Education - Shanghai Jiao Tong University

The GEARE programme offers you the unique opportunity to spend a semester at one of the most renowned chinese universities, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Additionally, the programme includes an internship for a minimum of 3 months.

The programme exists since 2007 and comes with many benefits. In addition to combining theory and practice, you can study in an international team, as the GEARE programme is based on exchange and offers you a student group with current and former participants for a direct exchange of experiences. You may apply from the 3rd semester (Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics) onwards (usually in November), so you can already gain this great experience as part of your Bachelor's degree.

Selection criteria:

  • Good academic performance (Fundamental Subjects, MKL)
  • Good performance in the MKL workshops
  • Good English language skills
  • Readiness for social engagement in the AK GEARE university group
  • Selection interview

Funding: Mutual waiver of tuition fees abroad. Integrated internship with agreed salary. DAAD scholarships may be available. Recognition of academic achievements is arranged in advance for many subjects and for the internship, so that your stay abroad can be perfectly integrated into your studies.

2. Tongji University, Shanghai, China

The double degree programme for Master's students of Mechanical Engineering between the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the renowned Tongji University in Shanghai offers your the unique opportunity to acquire two degrees and experience the fascinating metropolis of Shanghai at the same time.

Shanghai is known for its breathtaking skyline that combines tradition and modernity in a unique way. Discover its rich history, diverse art scene and numerous cultural events. The Tongji University is one of the oldest and most renowned universities in China and is known for its excellent engineering programme, as well as for its strong international orientation.

The double degree programme exists since 2013 and is aimed at students majoring in Automotive or Production Engineering. Students spend the first two Master's semesters at KIT, followed by 3 semesters in China, so that they can really immerse themselves in the culture and network effectively.
